Benefits of DOI

Indexation in CrossRef gives authenticity to a journal that is assigning DOI’s to its published articles. As part of a global effort to improve access to research data, there is growing impetus for an international culture of citation using the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) System. It increases acceptance of research data as legitimate and citable contributions to the scholarly record.

For an author, citations to his/her published article matters. However, several citations go undetected because of poor referencing/citation systems. DOI enables every published article to cite properly, thus provides accurate number of citations and also increase the visibility of the published work. This increases the impact factor of the author and journal as well.
